POV Documentary Film Series : Art and Craft

Tuesday, November 21st, 2017
8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Cultural Center at the Opera House
121 N. Union Avenue
Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078

Mark Landis is one of the most prolific art forgers of the modern era — and he isn’t in it for the money. In the last 30 years he’s copied hundreds of pieces, from 15th-century icons to works by Picasso and even Dr. Seuss, then donated them to museums across the country. When a tenacious registrar discovers the ruse, Landis must confront his legacy and a chorus of duped professionals intent on stopping him. But Landis is a diagnosed schizophrenic, driven since his teens to escape “the life of a mental patient,” and ending the con isn’t so simple. A cat-and-mouse caper told with humor and compassion, Art and Craft uncovers the universal in one man’s search for connection and respect.

The POV Film Series features a distinguished series of independent documentaries broadcast by PBS. All POV screenings are followed by facilitated audience conversations.

Admission to the POV Film Series is free but registration is required!

A Night of the Blues: Baltimore Red and Wayne Werner Live in Concert

Wednesday, November 29th, 2017
7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

HdG Maritime Museum
100 Lafayette St.
Havre de Grace, MD 21078

Maryland-based bluesmen “Red” Jones, or Baltimore Red and his pal Wayne Werner are booked to play an intimate gig at the Havre De Grace Maritime Museum.

ADMISSION: $15 per person

The pair play mostly pre-WWII (old-style) blues – Delta, Piedmont, and ragtime – the root of all American rock and roll. Bottleneck slide, harmonica, vintage lap steels, antique instruments, and amplifiers add to the duo’s gritty sound.

Their performance will take an old-timey approach to the blues craft, in a nod to medicine shows and Holcombe acts of the turn of the century, in what is sure to be an authentic acoustic blues gig.

Over the years, Red and Wayne have played many festivals, and have shared the bill with John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, Dave Mason of Traffic, and Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones. Together, they represent a modern take on the acoustic duo tradition as made popular by acts such as Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, as well as Cephas & Wiggins.

Baltimore Red has made two appearances at the National Blues Competition in Memphis. He’s played in front of thousands at festivals nationally, including a 2007 performance at the Southern Comfort Blues Bash in Charleston, SC.
