“Silent Witnesses” – Children Survivors of the Holocaust

Saturday, April 22nd, 2017
7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Mt. Zion Church
1643 Churchville Rd.
Bel Air, MD 21015

An award-winning solo play, performed and written by Los Angeles artist, Stephanie Satie. Based upon her interviews and conversations with child survivors of the Holocaust, she tells their stories. Ripped from everything they knew and silently bearing witness to the atrocities, these children grew up in the shadows …. confused, terrified, displaced, even rejected by their own so they would have a chance to survive. Expected to just quietly assimilate and not dwell on their past, these women remained silent for years. Now, they begin to tell their stories for the first time.

Silent Witnesses reveals horrible truths, yet it is much more than a portrayal of victims. The play is also an uplifting testimony to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

Living History: Mata Hari

Sunday, April 30th, 2017
2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Aberdeen Library
21 Franklin Street
Aberdeen, Maryland 21001

A living history presentation on Mata Hari, the World War I spy and femme fatale, will be held Sunday, April 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Aberdeen Library, 21 Franklin Street in Aberdeen. Mata Hari will be portrayed by Angela Yau.

“Margreet” Zelle MacLeod, better known as Mata Hari, was a Dutch citizen who was able to cross the borders of Europe freely because her home country of the Netherlands was neutral during the war. In 1916 she accepted an assignment to spy for France by passing along military information she learned from her conquests of German officers. She was accused of being a German spy and was executed by firing squad by the French in 1917.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. For more information, visit hcplonline.org.
