The Maritime Museum offers up a Boatload of Summer Music!

Wednesday nights, from 7-9PM; Admission: $10 per person

The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum announces its annual Summer Concert Series on Wednesday nights, from June 7 – August 16. “This year’s music series will be better than ever,” says Havre de Grace Maritime Museum president Bruce Russell. “We’re bringing back some old favorites as well as introducing some new performers to the series. From English dance hall rhythms to Chesapeake-style bluegrass, you never know exactly what to expect from our performers except that it’s all first-class. It’s always a fun night.”

The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum’s Summer Concert Series is presented to a seated audience inside the museum’s air-conditioned building, at 100 Lafayette Street in Havre de Grace. Wine and beer are available for sale. There is ample parking and the building is handicap accessible.

The Summer Concert Series is brought to you with the support of the Maryland State Arts Council and donations from the general public. Thank you.

These classes combine yoga poses, songs, games, and creative movement, all centered around a nature-inspired theme to inspire creativity, as well as promote physical and social-emotional development, along with connection to nature and each other. From otters to eagles, there is a wild side to the wildlife at Eden Mill. Join our naturalists for a week of fun! Get ready for Summer Camp at the Environmental Center!

** FOR AGES 8-14 **

FEE: $100 for full week, $50 for half day.

Each day of camp, the campers will explore a variety of environmental topics relevant to the upper Chesapeake Bay watershed. Campers should bring a lunch and refillable water bottle each day. If campers are only half-day participants, then a lunch is not required. All participants should be prepared for the activities with appropriate footwear and skin protection. Environmental Center will provide all other necessary gear.

DAILY TOPICS OF FOCUS:

Wetland Exploration – Campers will be exposed to the functions of a wetland ecosystem through exploration and observation. Campers will discuss what they found and assess the function of the wetland based on their findings. Campers will observe macro-invertebrates inside the Center’s lab.

Biodiversity Scavenger Hunt and Discoveries – Campers will learn the importance of living and non-living things in an ecosystem; how they work together and rely upon one another to form a successful ecosystem. The scavenger hunt encourages an active understanding of the value of biodiversity in nature and potential threats to our diverse ecosystem in the bay.

Forest Ecosystem Adventures – Campers will explore and observe the variety of tree species located around Susquehanna region. Organized hikes encourage campers to make these observations and discuss the important role the trees play in the ecosystem.

A Bug’s Life – Campers will learn the value that insects play in our ecosystems. Campers will be challenged to break current misconceptions with the fear factor of insects by gaining a new appreciation to their role in the environment. Campers will be challenged to catch new and different types of insects through extensive exploration.

Nature into Art – Campers will explore the outdoor world through their own observations; they will be provided with journals for recording purposes. Campers will create art through their findings amongst the great outdoors. Students will understand how to up-cycle items that is considered trash, into new and unique art forms.

Shoreline Studies – Campers will explore the shoreline of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay. Campers will notice the various species that are found amongst the shoreline, collect samples, make documentations, and dive deeper into what is found using lab equipment.

Wildlife Listening and Learning – Campers will dive into nature explorations using their five senses. Campers will go through various activities such as solo-hikes and blind-folded games. Campers will learn to appreciate the world around them through their experience.

Survival Skills – Campers will learn basic wilderness survival skills including fire building, shelter building, tracking, and understanding what tools are essential to have. Campers will gain skills to feel confident in surviving in the great outdoors.

Become part of a Bush River monitoring effort. Join CBNERR, DNR and OPCA to collect fish population data that will be used to help determine the status of tidal freshwater fish in our area. No experience is required. All training and equipment will be provided. (Dinner provided) Sampling dates are July 7 & 22, August 5 & 25, and September 8 & 23. This program is for ages 16 to adult.
